Did I steal your idea?

Well,,, I have been asked by many people where and how the idea of naming my blog Choosing My Confessions originated.  I have been blamed (jokingly) of stealing the line from other blogs or something.

Have I stolen the line? Maybe! Lemme explain it. I have been a big REM fan since the year 2006 (Not sure about the date). REM is a great band that was formed in Athens, Georgia (USA) in the year 1980 (again not confident about the year) by Michael Stipe. Michael is the lead vocalist of the band. As far as my memory goes back, REM was the band that revolutionized the alternative rock music with the launch of their first album ‘Radio Free Europe’ in 1981.

One of my all-time favorite songs, Losing My Religion, was released in the year 1991 by REM. I guess the song is their biggest hit till date. The music video was directed by Mr. Tarsem Singh. Yes, an Indian dude! I am not sure if Tarsem Singh ever lived in Punjab or not, but he definitely attended his school in Shimla. Anyways, let’s talk about the song. If you ever listen to the song and pay attention to the lyrics, you’ll realize where the phrase ‘Choosing My Confessions’ comes from.

Don’t forget to listen to this amazing and beautifully written and composed song. I would strongly recommend watching the video; It’s really mysterious and is laden with religious imagery such as Saint Sebastian and Hindu deities, portrayed in a series of tableaux. BTW, the video of Losing my Religion also won the MTV music video of the year award in 1991.

Yes, I did steal the phrase. But did I? I would prefer to say I got inspired by the lyrics of the song and I don’t see anything wrong with what I have done. What say?

  1. Songs provoke thought and often reveal emotions. It is natural to be inspired by the lyrics and melody of soulful tracks.

  2. Well with this post, even my query is resolved & now the secret is disclosed (confessed).Normally bloggers look out for apt title for their post, but your blog title says it all.

  3. A number of people have asked me why I named my blog “Choosing my Confessions”. So I thought let me confess it now,,, :)))
